New Jersey American Water will replace about 4,900 feet of water main in Tinton Falls, the company said in a news release on Tuesday, July 9. The project will upgrade the 30-inch transmission main installed as old as the 1970s with a new 30-inch ductile iron main.
The replacements will happen along these routes:
Wayside Road from Drift to Shafto roads
Shafto Road from Wayside to Hope roads
Hope Road from Shafto Road to Alpine Trail
NJ American Water will also install about 3,000 feet of new eight-inch water main to improve water supply to nearby customers, along with replacing fire hydrants and utility-owned service lines.
"At New Jersey American Water, we proactively identify and upgrade critical infrastructure based on routine assessments throughout our distribution system," said senior project manager Natalya Shimunova. "This initiative, identified through a condition assessment in 2022, underscores our commitment to safe and reliable water service. Our continuous investments minimize service interruptions and address growing demands."
The company also said it will replace any service line owned by customers identified as lead or galvanized. This is part of the state's initiative to remove all lead and galvanized service lines by 2031.
The contractor Perna Finnigan will start the project on the week of Monday, July 15, and is expected to complete it by the end of November. Crews will work Mondays through Fridays from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Street restoration work is expected to be finished in the spring.
